Disclaimer

The VIPilot navigation functions are derived from both WAAS (or GPS) reception and the VIPilot database. The database is extracted from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aeronautical Information Services (ATA-100) database CD. The FAA makes the following disclaimer on their internet site:

======================

DISCLAIMER Unless otherwise specifically stated, the information contained herein is made available to the public by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), an Agency of the Department of Transportation (DOT), and the United States Government (USG) for information only. Neither the FAA, DOT, OR USG nor any other agency or entities thereof, assumes any legal liability or responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any information, apparatus, product or process disclosed, or represents that the use of any information would not infringe privately owned rights. Reference herein to any specific commercial product, process, service by trade name, trademark, manufacturer, or otherwise, does not constitute or imply its endorsement, recommendation, or favoring by the USG or any entities thereof. The views and opinions of the originators expressed therein do not necessarily state or reflect those of the FAA, DOT, USG, or any agency or entities thereof.

======================

Likewise, we can not assume any legal liability or responsibility for the quality of the data provided. We make a reasonable attempt to properly represent the FAA supplied data. In addition, VIPilot users have noted a number of discrepancies and missing data items in the FAA database.

Where discrepancies exist, VIPilot gives priority to position data over heading data. Such discrepancies are reported to the FAA. If the data is approximated from the FAA database (airport but not runway location provided), an indication is provided within the VIPilot data detail readout.

In some cases our users have supplied data corrections or additions. If those corrections appear to be more credible or complete than the data supplied by the FAA, such information will be forwarded to the FAA.

VIPilot will include such changes in patch file(s) for distribution with our data updates in advance of any FAA correction or rejection. Items patched in that manor will be given a different indication within the data detail readout. While the procedures have been automated to minimize errors in such data, we can not be responsible for the quality of the data. We provide this as a free service to our users in order to share the information gathered.
